Do I have to be Buddhist? Religious? Spiritual?
- Not. At. All. I was raised agnostic by atheist, humanist intellectuals. Wild Meditation requires absolutely no affiliation or belief structure. In fact, it encourages letting go of all beliefs in order to experience what's actually true in your direct experience now. Many people, however, including myself, do experience a deeper connection with life and all that is through the practice -- but what you call it or make of it is entirely up to you.
How much time will this take? I have, like, negative amounts of time in my life.
- Wild Meditation can be done in any activity of life, so it will take no extra time in your life.
- For the course itself -- materials for the week will be released on Saturday mornings so that you have the whole weekend to make 30min to an hour to check them out.
- There will also be optional activities, inquiries and adventure challenges for people who want to go deeper.
- It really is true -- the less time you have in your life, the more you can potentially benefit from meditation. This is your life -- we never know when it's over -- and if you're rushing around you're likely missing it -- the beauty, the magic, the moments of connection, the crazy weirdness, the miracle of being alive.
Will it be boring?
- Nah. This community is awesome. You're going to be many things: fascinated. amazed. curious. challenged. But not bored.
How is this different?
- See the "What is Wild Meditation?" section on the front page!
I can't sit still because of pain, or because I just...can't.
- That's okay! Wild Meditation can be done in any posture or movement. Life isn't just sitting, so why should meditation be? Sitting is the easiest starting point for many people, but if it's not easiest for you let's start you somewhere else.
I fall asleep.
- Oh, don't you worry. I have plenty of solutions for that. :)
Why should I bother?
- If you're not happy, meditation will help you to be happy.
- If you are happy, you will see things in ways you never have before.
- You should only bother if you feel called to, in which case - the "why" doesn't really matter, does it?
What if I don't have enough time to meditate every day?
- Wild Meditation is done where the rubber meets the road -- in daily life. So, if you have time to be alive, you have time for Wild Meditation.
What if I'm "bad" at meditation?
- There's no such thing as being "bad" at meditation. There is more pleasant or less pleasant meditation -- but, happily, "pleasantness" is not an indicator of good or bad meditation. Popular meditation marketing would have you believe "good" meditation is sitting in a constant state of bliss. That can happen, but that is not "good" meditation -- it is just one experience. Wild Meditation teaches you how to be present to whatever is happening, ALL of life -- from the bliss to the bust -- so that you can experience the whole range of being alive and through that become a wiser, happier and more compassionate human being.
What if I like sitting meditation?
- Personally, I love sitting meditation and do it daily. Wild Meditation doesn't EXCLUDE sitting, it just INCLUDES everything else! Sitting will definitely be an option -- but not a requirement. It is often something that people work their way to, rather than starting at. I go into detail on why in the course.
